Adolescent Comprehension Through Modeling
Teacher modeling is a key component of good instruction. National reading experts Diane Lapp, Ed.D and Doug Fisher, Ph.D blend current research with classroom examples to show how instructional modeling can lead to increased engagement and advanced reading comprehension. The course is based on and includes the book In a Reading State of Mind: Brain Research, Teacher Modeling, and Comprehension Instruction by Fisher, Lapp, and Nancy Frey.

Instructional Strategies for Fractions New!
This new Fractions course, developed by Paul Riccomini, Ph.D and Bradley S. Witzel, Ph.D, emphasizes the importance of developing both conceptual knowledge and procedural accuracy of fractions.Participants will learn a specific evidenced-based instructional approach, Concrete to Representational to Abstract (CRA) instructional sequence, to more effectively teach fractions to struggling students and students with disabilities.

Math Vocabulary Strategies Count!
Educators should recognize the importance of and use research-validated instructional methods to teach important mathematical vocabulary. Paul Riccomini, Ph.D, a national expert in mathematics instruction, guides participants to an understanding of math vocabulary's impact on proficiency, and then provides evidence-based instructional strategies and assessment procedures to promote the learning of essential math vocabulary.

Adolescent Vocabulary Across Content Areas
Research indicates that students must learn thousands of words per year through incidental exposure and explicit instruction. Deborah Reed, Ph.D., a national expert in vocabulary instruction, provides teachers an overall understanding of the role of vocabulary instruction in content-area learning and evidence-based instructional strategies to promote vocabulary learning.
