Voyager Expanded Learning
92% Either Emerging or On-Track
Universal Literacy's system of progress monitoring and targeted instruction benefits all students. The 20,233 kindergarten students from 84 school districts represented here are predominantly minority, from Title I urban schools, and eligible for free or reduced lunch. 92 percent of these students ended their kindergarten year either emerging or on-track.

Impact of Universal Literacy
Over a Four-Year Period

The charts below show the end-of-year status for 37,579 students in 84 districts enrolled in Universal Literacy for the 2006-2007 school year. Universal Literacy has been the core reading program for these students since kindergarten.

After two years (kindergarten and first grade) in Universal Literacy, 91 percent of first-graders are emerging and on-track readers. N=10,091

After three years (kindergarten, first, and second grade) in Universal Literacy, 84 percent of second-graders are emerging and on-track readers. N=6446

After four years (kindergarten, first, second, and third grade) in Universal Literacy, 87 percent of third-graders are emerging and on-track readers. N=2809

Comparison of Voyager Students to Non-Voyager Students

In a comparison of students who participated in Universal Literacy since kindergarten and students who entered the program at or near the end of the year from other reading programs, Voyager classrooms consistently yielded fewer struggling readers and more on-track readers across grade levels.

I am so grateful to Voyager Learning for assisting with the needs of our students. In my 27 years as educator, I have never experienced a true partnership with a company that shared the responsibility of providing a valid curriculum and professional development for the teachers along with on going research to meet the vast needs of students. I salute you in this endeavor to provide the best education for all students.
