Students Read 17 Million Passages on Voyager Ticket to Read Online ProgramDALLAS, November 3, 2009 — Students using Ticket to Read®, the online reading program designed by Voyager Expanded Learning, Inc., reached 17 million reading passages during the week ending October 17, 2009. Students first began logging on the program in October 2007 and continue to read passages on the program daily.
During the week of October 17, 2009, more than 161,000 students logged on to the program and read more than 303,000 passages.
Ticket to Read is an easy-to-access and easy-to-use website designed to increase phonics skills, reading fluency, comprehension and vocabulary through additional practice at home and at school. The embedded reward system motivates both struggling and proficient readers to spend more time reading.
Ticket to Read provides students with different options as they practice their reading skills. They can participate in phonics activities, read high-interest passages at increasing levels of difficulty, take passage quizzes and also earn points to use in playing games, building virtual toys and customizing their personal clubhouse. Students can independently practice important reading skills at school, home, libraries or anywhere there is Internet access. The program is targeted to students in kindergarten through sixth grade.
"Ticket to Read is totally awesome for many reasons. First, the two games are so fun. Next, there are the rewards. If you read a passage you will get a ribbon, but if you read a book you will get a trophy. Then, there are things you get when you open up your catalog and there's a hideout that is SWEET! Last, the passages are interesting to me. Clearly, Ticket to Read is the best place to go."
