Students Read Fifteen Million Passages on Voyager Ticket to Read Online Program

DALLAS, June 12, 2009— Even as summer approaches, the online reading platform Ticket to Read®, created by Voyager Expanded Learning®, continues to be a hot website among students. Since the program's inception, hundreds of thousands of students have logged on to the engaging program and last week students reached a milestone and read the fifteen millionth reading passage.

Ticket to Read provides students with additional, independent reading practice with purpose through engaging stories, games and rewards that keep them motivated to learn to read. Students and teachers alike are seeing positive results from use of the online program.

"Our third grade students enjoy the stories, games, colored illustrations and being able to access the material easily. The students feel confident and motivated with the program." - Third Grade Teacher, Mississippi

"Ticket to Read makes me better at reading because it is so interesting and gives me a purpose to read. I love the catalogs because they have so many interesting objects to put in my clubhouse. Ticket to Read is the best." - Brandalyn, Fourth Grade Student, Maryland

"Ticket to Read is helpful for me to understand words. It helps me read faster and better. The passages are interesting. I'm learning about different people and things. I love Ticket to Read. It helps me become a better reader." - Alexis, Third Grade Student, California

Ticket to Read is an easy-to-access and easy-to-use website designed to increase phonics skills, reading fluency, comprehension and vocabulary through additional practice at home and at school. The embedded reward system motivates both struggling and proficient readers to spend more time reading.

Ticket to Read provides students with different options as they practice their reading skills. They can participate in phonics activities, read high-interest passages at increasing levels of difficulty, take passage quizzes and also earn points to use in playing games, building virtual toys and customizing their personal clubhouse. Students can independently practice important reading skills at school, home, libraries or anywhere there is Internet access. The program is targeted to students in kindergarten through sixth grade.
