Voyager Passport Instrumental in West Park Elementary (CO) Title I Distinguished School Achievement Award

Leadville, CO., January 31, 2008 - West Park Elementary School, part of Lake County School District, will be honored today at the National Title I Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, as one of two Colorado Title I Distinguished Schools. West Park Elementary School won the award based on success closing the achievement gap between students eligible for free or reduced lunch and those not eligible. The school also received $10,000 as part of the award.

"In January 2006, while looking at student data, the staff was in tears trying to find success," West Park Principal Linda Adams said. "Now we are again in tears having received this award. We followed our motto and did 'Whatever it takes.'"

That's when the school began implementing the Voyager Passport reading intervention system and saw significant gains. During the 2005-2006 school year, only 75 percent of the students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch scored at a proficient level on the Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP). In 2006-2007, after using Voyager Passport, the percentage soared to 95 percent-an improvement of 20 percentage points.

"The success of our students on our state test, CSAP, is testimony to the hard work and dedication of our teachers and students - and thanks to Voyager Expanded Learning, who has supported us all along the way," Adams said. "We attribute our success to our partner, Voyager Expanded Learning."

Due to the continued success with Voyager Passport at West Park, Lake County School District began implementing Passport Reading Journeys, Voyager's middle and high school reading intervention program for the 2007-2008 school year.

West Park Elementary serves 270 students in grades two through four in Lake County and Leadville, Colorado.
