Frequently Asked Questions
What is Inside Algebra?
Inside Algebra is an engaging, mastery-based algebra program for at-risk students who would benefit from a multisensory approach to achieving algebra success.
By using Inside Algebra as a supplement, does it align to other programs?
Inside Algebra meets the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) algebra standards and aligns with the traditional algebra programs.
How long should one objective take to complete?
If a student needs to complete all 60 of the objectives, a typical lesson plan per objective would need approximately three to five days to complete.
Does Inside Algebra address and meet algebra requirements for graduation and AYP?
Yes, the program was initially developed for students who had failed algebra and required a second chance to pass algebra. Because the program meets the NCTM algebra standards, it meets graduation standards and AYP requirements.
Why are there so many lesson activities?
The numerous lesson activities help ensure student mastery of the objectives. After pretesting students' learning, teachers select from the Concept Development activities. Upon completion and monitoring of student understanding, teachers then select a practice activity and finally a problem-solving activity. The activities form a "flow chart" of options so that teachers can move up and down the activity choices to teach the concept, practice the skill, and finally apply problem-solving strategies. Post-testing only comes after students have shown mastery of the hierarchy of learning.
Does the program require manipulatives?
The program relies heavily on the hands-on, manipulative-based approach to learning. Many of the activities require typical math manipulatives—as well as various blackline masters and "game cards" that are included either in the Student Interactive Text or the Online Resources.
